Every Thanksgiving since I can remember, my family has made this pecan pie recipe. It reminds me of my childhood in South Carolina, thanksgiving afternoons with family, and a fierce game of spoons! This recipe is EXTREMELY easy! So easy, my two and half year old can assist throughout the process. I am also excited to introduce you to an amazing cookbook and some products my kitchen can’t live without. (If you choose to buy, please know that I may receive commission at no cost to you.)
Traditional Pecan Pie
For this post, I made two versions of the pecan pie: Semi-Homemade and Entirely Homemade, the difference between the two, the crust. When making this pie, my family always uses Pillsbury Pie Crust. Out of all the pie crusts in the market, Pillsbury is simply the best. However, this past year, I have been trying to bake from scratch, so for one of the recipes I opted to use the Basic Flaky Pie Pastry from the book, Pie by Ken Haedrich. Once you decide which dough to use, the entire assembly process can take you less than 10 minutes.
Some Tips…
- This pecan pie can be made the night before and placed on your counter overnight. Don’t stress Thanksgiving morning with another item on your to-do list, make the night before!
- Opt for homemade whipped cream! If you are having a smaller gathering this year, I would recommend this handy tool from Amazon. It can be stored in the fridge and you can have on-demand whipped cream with the homemade taste.
- If you have young children, get them involved. Not many baking recipes are this easy and they will love tasting the final product.
- If you are making your own pie dough, we use this mat when rolling out the dough. It was a quarantine purchase that we now use constantly because it allows for ease of cleaning!
- I would recommend a combination of whole and broken pecans. While placed pecans make the pie look pretty, scattered pecans make the slice easier to eat. Â
