Cooler temperatures are on the way in Rhode Island, which means soon fuzzy sweaters, comfy boots, and pumpkin spice lattes will abound. And one of my favorite fall bucket list activities is pumpkin picking! My kids just love hayrides followed by scouring fields in search of the perfect jack-o-lantern pumpkins. Then we get home and they promptly ask their Dad to carve the pumpkins for him (hey, better him than me)!
These RI pumpkin patches are some of our favorites (and some from MA too!).
Dame Farm, Johnston
Family owned and operated, Dame Farm provides multiple pick-your-own opportunities throughout the seasons, including pumpkins. They also offer wagons rides, a corn maze and plenty of already-picked fresh, local produce in the farm stand. This picturesque farm is a great spot to bring the family!
Salisbury Farm, Johnston
Salisbury Farm has free tractor-drawn hayrides on the weekend, a pumpkin patch, and a farm stand. It is the perfect place to set the mood for fall and pick up all of your autumn needs.
Confreda Farm, Hope
Confreda Farm’s annual fall fest offers a wide variety of family-friendly activities including pumpkin picking, hayrides, bounce houses, and delicious concessions (including their apple cider slushies)! Open every weekend starting September 14th, it’s the perfect place to find your perfect pumpkin to carve your jack-o-lantern creation this year.
Adams Farm, Cumberland
Located on the Cumberland/Wrentham, Massachusetts border, Adams farm offers a large pumpkin patch and hayrides on the weekend. They also have many farm animals including cows, ducks, and goats who all love to be fed and love when families pay a visit to them.
Barden Family Orchard, North Scituate
Open daily from Labor Day to Halloween, this farm has been family-run since 1931. In addition to pumpkin picking, Barden Family Orchard also offers pick-your-own apples, raspberries, and tomatoes during the fall season.
Frerichs Farm, Warren
Beginning September 10th and running through October 27th this year, Frerichs Farm holds their annual “Pumpkin Palooza.” Children can “play in the hay,” ride the magic pumpkin coach, visit the Western town, and even paint their own pumpkin. Round out your visit with a trip to their Charlie Brown Pumpkin Patch. Who knows, maybe you’ll even see the “Great Pumpkin” there! Frerichs Farm also hold an annual Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off which will take place on October 12th.
Escobar Farm, Portsmouth
Visit “Lou’s Pumpkin Patch” at Escobar Farm to pick out the perfect pumpkin! Escobar Farm is also home to an annual corn maze which is open on the weekends. This design for this year’s maze is dedicated to the military.
Cucumber Hill Farm, Foster
Cucumber Hill Farm offers everything that screams fall in New England. Besides pick your own pumpkins, they have hayrides, pony rides, a corn maze, and a flashlight maze for the night owls in your family. They also have the most beautiful scenery so it’s the perfect place to potentially capture your family holiday card photo!
Spring Hill Sugar House, Richmond
Offering more than just a fruitful pumpkin patch, Spring Hill Sugar house boasts cider, a corn maze and a one stop shop for your fall decorating needs. Their annual farm festival will take place on Saturday, September 28th and will feature cider press demonstrations, live music, and activities for kids.
Sweet Berry Farm, Middletown
Located in picturesque Middletown, Sweet Berry Farm offers a wide variety of pick-your-own produce in addition to pick-your-own pumpkins. Stay awhile and enjoy lunch from their Farm Café, or pick up a treat to go from their Farm Market, which sells a variety of dairy, gourmet items, and ice cream; many sourced locally. Pre-picked farm grown produce is also available.
Four Town Farm, Seekonk, MA
Just over the border in Massachusetts, you will find beautiful Four Town Farm and their pumpkin patch! You’ll arrive at the field via tractor ride and will be picked back up once you’ve selected your perfect pumpkin. Start dates vary, so please call ahead.
Wojcik’s Farm, Blackstone, MA
With a motto of “come to spend a day in the countryside,” Wojcik’s Farm over the border in Blackstone, Massachusetts, is a great destination for those chilly fall weekends ahead. They offer tractor-driven wagon rides to their pumpkin patch and themed corn maze (2018’s theme is “The Great Outdoors”), as well as apple picking. There is also a farm store and bakery on the premises.
