It’s Date Night!

Yes! Finally a date night! Did you finally find a sitter or beloved family member willing to take over the crew for the evening or maybe even the day? Or maybe you need some source of inspiration to make one of these date nights happen?

For some parents, it’s so much work. Nail down a date. Find a sitter. Figure out where to eat. Figure out what to do for an activity. Figure out the timing of it all. Get the kids all set up. What an exhausting list. Well, let me throw out a few different ideas of date night and date day ideas for any lucky ducks who manage to escape for a whole day!

Date Idea #1 – The Active Date

How about indoor rock climbing? It requires trust and communication. Two things helpful to be refreshed upon in any relationship. There are definitely a handful of rock climbing gyms in Rhode Island and many of them have Groupon or Living Social deals available to make it more affordable as well. Grab a coffee together afterwards to just spend time talking together.

Date Idea #2 – The Leisurely Date

Hit up Roger Williams Zoo Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular! Grab dinner before hand at a restaurant in Garden City (hey, that narrows down the options to about 10, right?) After dinner, pick up two pumpkins or else obtain these prior to date night – maybe a fun family weekend activity the weekend before. Then go to the Spectacular later in the evening so as to not hit all the major crowds that usually happen when the night first starts. Afterwards, head home and carve pumpkins while talking about which one was your favorite that you saw that night – hopefully the kids will be bed by this point!

Date Idea #3 – The Brainy Date

Eat at a place that you and your loved one used to frequent often before having kids. It may take a moment to think of the place but it will come to you. Next, go to a local bookstore – maybe a bigger one if you or your loved one is shy – and pick out a classic such as a Shakespearean play or a Charles Dickens novel. Maybe there is a favorite book between you two! Next, sit together and take turns rehearsing lines or reading out loud together mimicking character voices and just being plain old silly. This can really help to take your focus off the world around you and just relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Day Date Idea

Hit up Newport for the day. Start by driving the long way down the East Bay. Drive through Barrington and Bristol and grab breakfast at one of the many cozy cafes. Maybe stop for a small stroll at Colt State Park or through downtown Bristol. Next, continue winding down through Portsmouth and Middletown into Newport. If the weather is decent enough, hit up the Cliff Walk. Download a guide beforehand to learn information about the sites as you go along. Next, park somewhere downtown and walk along the wharf and go window shopping in the cutesy shops downtown. For indoor ideas, pick a mansion or two or visit the International Tennis Hall of Fame or the Redwood Library and Anthenaeum or something off this list of other fun Newport things to do. Top off the day with dinner at a place that has a gorgeous sunset view.
